The Big Drop- Abby and Makenzie’s Semester Project

This semester my friend Makenzie and I did an experiment about which ball bounced the highest when dropped from 3 feet. The balls we used were a basketball, a golf ball, a volleyball, a bouncy ball, a racquet ball, and a tennis ball. We bounced on 3 different types of floors, terrazzo, carpet, and concrete. the results were as following: On the terrazzo floor the golf ball bounced the highest, and  on the carpet and concrete the racquet ball bounced the highest. I learned….that in some cases the smaller the ball the larger the bounce, and that golf balls can bounce rather high. I liked….that we got to test which floors were easier to bounce on and that we got to test out something that we wanted to know more about. I wish I knew more about…. if the distance dropped was a higher distance would how high the ball bounced also be higher.

Mount Rushmore

Everybody knows Mt. Rushmore as the mountain with the presidents on it but it is actually an up warped mountain. An up-warped mountain is formed when forces inside Earth push up blocks of Earth’s crust. Eventually when the mountain erodes the softer part of the mountain will crumble away leaving behind the hard crystalline structure. The faces will eventually were down to round blobs in the side of the mountain.

My Theory On How The Universe Was Created

There are many things in  this universe that will lead you to believe that The Big Bang Theory would be the most accurate one and I do to, but I also believe that we will never be able to find out truly just how the universe was created. Here is how I think it was created… So in the bible God said let there be light and there we as light and i believe that this signifies the universes first hours. Then God separated the light from the darkness and it was and this signifies the stars that are created billions of years later. Then God said let the light be Called Day and the dark be called Night and so it was called, and in my opinion this signifies the first planets, and so the universe was created. That’s my theory, The Abby Theory.

What Really Happens Inside A Chemical Reaction

Other than the changes on the outside, when a  chemical reaction takes place the molecules and atoms of the substances are combining.  When this happens you may get a change of state, color, smell, temperature, you may get smoke, and you also might even have an explosion. When the elements Hydrogen (2) and Oxygen (1) combine you get water. Here is a quick video to show you a chemical reaction:

Lab Saftey and Equipment

It is important to know your lab safety because:

If you don’t know were your fire extinguisher or what on Earth a microscope is or even what a Newton gram is then here are a few examples to explain to you what might happen then.

Ex 1: Listening
If you don’t know were your fire safety and what to do in case of a fire is you could be working with a Bunsen Burner and set a paper on fire. You try to put it out but you catch more things on fire. You look around and don’t see the fire extinguisher and you didn’t listen while you were in class. The table catches on fire and then the whole school has to evacuate because you didn’t listen in class when the teacher told you.

Ex 2: Horse playing in Class
So you and your buddy are in class and your teacher assigns you two to a chemical project to do. So your teacher brings you the chemicals and the things you will need. After you finish your project and “clean” up you and your buddy have some extra time in class. So you have a pencil war. The girl sitting next to you gets up with her chemicals to go dump into the sink and you bump her and she spills it all over her and has to go to the hospital because of chemical burns.

Ex 3:Following Instructions
Your teacher assigns you a step by step experiment and you being the stubborn person that you are don’t want to follow the instructions. So you do it how you want it. You accidentally mix the chemicals before you are supposed to and things go wrong. So you have to explain to your teacher that you didn’t follow the instructions and you get an F.

These are 3 reasons to always follow lab safety when you are doing anything from sneezing to creating a bomb when in a lab.
